Lazing in Montauk

Our 5 Days Spent in Montauk, NY.

hero

Wake up, pool, breakfast burrito, pool, lobster roll, stroll around town, sleep, repeat. Such is life during a 5 day vacation in Montauk. It's hard to leave the poolside on a sweltering August day, so in all honesty, that made up at least 65% of time spent in Montauk, no regrets. However, we did our best to get out there. Montauk is an A+ vacation town with plenty of beaches, restaurants, bars, and attractions to distract your from your normal like. It was a short stay, but check out some of the highlights from our visit.

5 Tasty Decisions

We're a family who pretty much centers everything around food. Our days together typically follow our bellies leads and this trip was no different. While digesting, we lightly discuss what the next meal should consist of. Lobster rolls? The Italian spot 5 minutes away? Are we in the mood for sushi? Sometimes things can get a little testy and slightly competitive, but it pretty much always lands us in a delicious setting laughing and ordering too many apps. Here are 5 of our favorite tasty decisions:

1. Gosman's:

A visit to Gosman's was a daily occurrence. If not visiting the restaurants for a lobster roll, we'd be gathering supplies at the fish market for our lunch or dinner later. I love a fish market, especially one as fresh as this. The restaurant has a huge patio overlooking the sound and makes a perfect spot for some shrimp cocktail or cold drink.

2. Sammy's On The Go:

This was.. also almost a daily occurrence. Which is funny, because this food truck was parked in the parking lot of Gosman's. It was a great place for us to walk to in the morning for a cup of coffee and dank breakfast burrito. They also served up a solid lobster roll, I wonder how many lobster rolls we ate during this trip. Ashley even had lobster rolls from here for breakfast, I love her.

3. Navy Beach:

Our dinner at Navy Beach was a blast. The nautical themed restaurant has a nice outdoor lounge right on the water and served up refreshing cocktails. We had the Yunnan Ribs, Charred Octopus, Charred Shishito, Burgers, and Roasted Scallops and everything slapped me in the face, that's a good thing.

4. Harvest:

I could sit out by the dock of this restaurant for hours sipping an Aperol spritz or six and watching the sail boats roll in. But, I would definitely leave my spot to go inside for dinner. We ate family style and had Veal Bolognese, Linguini Clam pasta, and the Farfalle. I hope to return.

5. TT's:

Tacos, margs, and a fun interior. That's the perfect combo for a beach vacation. The margaritas were delightful in the muggy 9000+ degree heat.

6. Montauk Brewery:

If you're a lover of beer, this is obviously a must-visit. With such a wide variety, there's something for everyone's tastebuds. Grab something refreshing and sit out on the front patio, people watch, and construct your Instagram post with the pictures you just took at the beach.

6 Of Our Favorite Outdoor Decisions

We've spoken a lot about eating, but I promise we did other things. 4 other things, to be precise:

hero

1. Montauk Lighthouse

A trip here, feels like a trip to the end of the world. I guess that's why you often hear people refer to Montauk as "Montauk end of the world", who knows? Walk the grounds, brood while staring out onto the violent Atlantic, and check out the museum. You may even meet someone famous, I met Derrick Rose here. It was and is a very big deal.

2. A trip into town:

If you can't think of anything to do, just go into town. Walk around window shopping or actually shopping at the numerous boutique clothing stores or find yourself some tacky souvenir to hang on your Christmas tree.

3. The Beach:

I definitely don't need to say this, but Montauk is on the beach. We were bougie enough to share a private beach, jumping into the freezing ocean every morning makes you feel immediately productive. We did visit public ones too though! Sunset beach really did the trick and didn't seem as busy as some of the others which is something I greatly appreciate.

4. Take out some bikes:

Feel like a kid again, wind in your hair, trying to balance a strawberry ice cream cone that's just melting down your arm. Slightly irritating, but the fun outweighs that. There are numerous bike rentals in town and it's a great way to get to more remote parts of the area.
